Cogswell & Harrison .450/400 Nitro Hammer Double Rifle Cogswell and Harrison .450/400 Nitro Hammer Double Rifle. This is an original 60-400 proofed double rifle. The gun is hell for stout and weighs in at nearly fourteen pounds! I do not know the original reason for the dimensions for this gun. It is a Jones underlever Hammer gun with an extra large frame and stepped down barrels. It is not sleeved and the barrels are steel that are 23 1/2" with one standing and two folded. The bores are mint and the action is tight and functions well. the locks are back action with no safety of any kind on the gun. The stock is large to match the action and is in very good condition with good finish and flat top chequering. NEW
Rigby .450 BPE Double Rifle Rigby .450EX double rifle. This is a back action hammer gun with a Jones underlever. The acton is tight as almost all Jones underlever actions are. The action itself has been blued at some time and retains most of that finish. The double R Rigby trademark stamp is on both the watertable and the barrel flats. The breech face has an interesting feature in a plate that is horizontally dovetailed in to the width of the standing breach. This plate is 1/4" tall and is removable by a small screw in the center of the action. I suppose this to assist in the removal of firing pins or as a way to quickly fix the inevitable pitting caused by mercuric primers. The bores are very good with slight frosting ahead of the chambers, but no pitting at all and very strong rifling. The barrel blue is 95% as redone. The barrels are 26" with 1 standing and two folded rear sights and the Rigby script is clear on top of the barrel. The forend has a Rigby type forend release and is very tight. The locks are tight and function well, the triggers being especially nice. There is a traditional wide sling swivel on the barrels and an engraved button type on the stock. The wood itself is dark and badly in need of a re-finish. The chequering appears to have been recently redone, with a fairly good job. The floorplate has a red stag in a round panel and there is a stag game scene in an oval on the left side of the receiver, with a boar game scene on the right side. The balance of the receiver is covered in small, well done scroll. The furniture and silver grip cap have 60% small scroll. The action is tight as new with ejectors and a single trigger. The barrels are 23 1/2" with as new bores and 1 standing and a ramp front sight with orange bead. The stock is extra fancy wood with a pistol grip and a semi- beavertail fore end. The butt stock has a 14 3/4 lop to a wood buttplate. 7lbs 9oz. Jules Bury 9.3x74r Ejector Double Rifle Jules Bury 9.3x74R ejector double rifle. This is basically a nice gun that could use a little tlc. The scope and rings are missing from the gun. The diamond that was inlet into the forend is also missing. The barrel blue is also very worn on the top of the barrel.There is a small chip out of the top of the buttstock where the top and the base join...Now for the good! The action is tight and well engraved with game scenes on both sides and 90% coverage open scroll. The action is silver and has a third fastener. The barrels are 24 1/2" with good bores and quick release bases. The forend is a three piece with nice figure and chequering. The buttstock has a crestplate in the base of the pistolgrip, a cheekpiece and flattop chequering. The triggers and the portions of the cocking legs that i can see are washed in gold as are the ejectors. The front trigger is articulated. Chapuis Brousse .470 Ejector Chapuis Brousse .470 Ejector. This rifle is in new condition with very light use and most of the overall finish remaining. The action is case coloured with 70% coverage of tight scroll and the rifle is tight on the face. The barrels are 23 3/4" with very clean bores and an engraved quarter rib with one standing and three folded sights. The front sight is a small gold bead and the barrel blue is 90%. The stock is very nice with good usable dimensions, a 15" lop and good finish and chequering. The grip has an engraved, trap style cap and the furniture has 90% blue. The gun weighs 10 lbs 5oz and shoots a two inch group at 50 yards. This rifle is one brought in by J.J. Perodeau at Champlin firearms. A E Smith Hammer Paradox 12 A.E. Smith Hammer Paradox 12. this gun is proofed for 26 grains of Cordite and a 750 grain bullet, 2 1/2" chamber and 32" barrels. The sights are 3 folded with a traditional rifle sight and a night pop-up. The top rib is raised for 8" and file cut. The bores are very nice and the rifling in the chokes is very strong, bores measure:.731/.730, 60% blue with loss at the hand. the action is very clean with nice back action locks that have border engraving and 80% case colour. Cogswell & Harrison .475 Express Nitro Double Rifle Cogswell & Harrison .475 Express Nitro Double Rifle. This rifle is a boxlock non-ejector in the .475 Express caliber. The action is tight on face and is mechanically sound with disk set strikers and clean trigger pulls. This rifle has no engraving on the action or barrels other than information associated with the maker and charge. The action has 60% case colour and the furniture blue is 80%. The barrels are 25" with 1 standing and 2 folded and a ramp front sight with a hood. The rib has engraved:"Service Charge. 75 Grains Cordite. 480 Grains Bullet" The Bores are very clean with sharp rifling and this rifle has been regulated to ammunition and comes with a target and load. The stock is above average in both appearance and fit. the wood to metal fit is very good with a nice even fit at the head. The stock is a pistol grip/ splinter and the lop is 14 1/2" to a Deccelerator pad. These Coggy's were all heavy for the caliber. This is what I would term a working rifle, kind of the "ph" model of it's day. The rifle weighs 11lbs 12oz, so the recoil is minimum, yet the rifle still has great balance and handling. Another plus for this rifle is the stock... The wood on the back-end of the rifle is outstanding! I can't imagine that the stock is original, however, the fit is perfect and the rifle shoots exceptionally well. Purdey C Quality Boxlock Blackpowder Double Rifle Purdey C Grade Boxlock Double Rifle 400EX. This double rifle is a bit of an anomaly...It has just been regulated to ammo and it is not a standard 400 Purdey. It is a .450/.400 2 7/8". This cartridge used 80-90 grains with a 230-255 grain bullet. There is further information on this cartridge in George Hoyem's book "The History and Development of Small Arms Ammunition" Volume Three. The rifle shoots very well and a target and four rounds provided. The rifle is tight on the face with standard Purdey tight scroll engraving covering 80% of the action. There are trace amounts of case colour remaining and the furniture blue is 90% condition. The barrels are 28" with very clean bores and sharp rifling. The sights are 1 standing 1 folded with a small bead front. There are sling swivel eyes and all of the screws are indexed with good slots. The stock is a pistol grip/ splinter with very nice chequering, 30 lpi, and really nice figure. The stock is original with a 14 1/4" lop to a chequered butt. The gripcap is horn and there is a crestplate that shows no signs of having been engraved. The rifle weighs 7lbs 10oz and is an absoloute joy to shoulder!
